Umpiring controversies and howlers in IPL 2022

IPL 2022 has seen some high octane entertainment so far, but the controversies too have dominated during the cash rich league, from umpiring howlers to controversies. Here is a look at some umpiring howlers and controversies in IPL 2022.
Powell non no ball call
Powell faced a contentious decision of non high no ball call from the umpires in the very last over of the match vs RR and that led to the biggest controversy of the season so far.
Pant’s DC protest
Unhappy with umpires not even checking about the legality of the ball with the third umpire, skipper Rishabh Pant asked his batsmen to not continue play, which led to a fine for the wicketkeeper-batter.
DC’s Amre banned
DC coach Praveen Amre ran to the field to protest the call and was subsequently banned for one match for breaching code.
Dodgy wide calls against RR
Royals were on the wrong end of some umpiring decisions after a few controversial wide calls in the match versus KKR.
Samson reviews wide call
Frustrated with a few dodgy call, RR skipper sent a wide decision to be reviewed, but the decision wasn’t overturned.
Kohli’s LBW vs MI
The RCB batter was on 48 and was given LBW by umpire Virender Sharma after being struck on the pad by a delivery bowled by Dewald Brevis.
DRS call got Kohli raging
Kohli left the field in rage after the third umpire also felt he didn’t find enough evidence to overturn the on-field umpire’s decision.
The LSG all-rounder felt the delivery bowled by RCB’s Josh Hazlewood should have been called a wide. But, the on-field umpire felt the delivery was legal as the batsmen had moved across.

Stoinis rage led to dismissal
Stoinis was unhappy with the ball not being called a wide and lost his call after he was cleaned up by Hazlewood in the same over.
Williamson was given out caught at slip after a long review by the third umpire. However, replays seemed to show the ball touching the surface before Devdutt Padikkal could grab the catch.

The youngster was robbed off him maiden wicket when on-field umpire Bruce Oxenford referred a caught and bowled decision against Robin Uthappa to the third umpire, who ruled it as not out.
