When female pros appealed India's strongest women to participate in WWE tryouts to showcase Girl-Power

India's first female WWE talent Kavita Devi has been encouraging and visiting parts of India to fuel female participation, here's a countdown of some India's strongest women giving a shout out!

Bengaluru, March 8: India's first ever WWE Tryouts turned out to be a humongous hit as it witnessed an unprecedented level of Girl-Power! The tryouts received a great response from the country's women.

Movements like #GiveDivasAChance trended, while the emerging platforms like Women's Evolution and the growing roster of female WWE Superstars led WWE to hear its audiences. All this made WWE switch their focus to bring more Women to the forefront of the competition.

With thousands of applications sent in, WWE India saw great participation from the women in India.

WWE received volumes of applications on its online portal with talent from across the country and the organisers were impressed to see the women expressing their interests in big numbers.

Around 80 participants consisting of close to 60 men and around 20 women were finally sourced from a talent pool consisting of elite performers with a diverse background in sports and athletics including kabaddi, wrestling, basketball, combat sports, cricket and bodybuilding. The country would now pin hopes with these 20 women to do well at the next level and book the big ticket.

A gold medalist in the south Asian games 2016, Kavita Devi is India's first female talent recruited by WWE. On 15 October 2017, WWE announced that Devi had signed a contract, and will start training at their Performance Center in January 2018. On April 8, 2018, Devi made her first appearance in the company while also making her Wrestlemania debut last year during the inaugural Wrestlemania Women's Battle Royal.
