Gilchrist to join old mates and pros' commentary team

By Staff

Sydney, Mar 2 (UNI) Adam Gilchrist has become a hot property and has his hands full with a number of assignments including commentating for Australia's Channel Nine alongside his former team-mates Mark Taylor and Michael Slater.

Gilchrist, who was recently signed by Hyderabad for 700,000 dollars to play in the IPL's Twenty20 tournament, will start his new innings in television after he signed with Australia's Channel Nine for the next season to join the commentry team which will also include former greats like Richie Benaud and Bill Lawry.

''I've been amazed at how many people have said they're expecting me to walk straight into the commentary box,'' Gilchrist told the Sunday Telegraph.

''I'd be reticent to sit up and try to pass judgment and comment on my team-mates, who I've just walked away from so, maybe in a different type of role, you might see me around a few games of cricket,'' he added.

Later this month on 30th, the 36-year-old left hander will make his on-screen debut when he co-hosts a sports show Wide World of Sports.

The hard-hitting wicketkeeper admitted that it will difficult for him to sit back and analyse the game after playing international cricket for eight long years.

Gilchrist has already filmed promotions for Wide World of Sports, which will return from a ten-year break on March 16 with the anchor Ken Sutcliffe to be joined by a revolving team of co-hosts.

Sutcliffe, a veteran of Australian sports broadcasting praised Gilchrist saying, ''He's frighteningly good, he's a natural.'' UNI XC RAR CS PM1144
