Aled Davies, known as "The Bear," has made significant strides in his athletic career. Born in Wales, he began his journey in athletics at age 14 after attending a Disability Sport Wales event. Throughout his career, Davies faced several injuries. He tore knee ligaments in 2009 and required foot surgery between the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In July 2015, he underwent hernia surgery, missing the Anniversary Games in London. In early 2023, he was affected by osteitis pubis, an inflammation of the joint between the pubic bones.
Despite these challenges, Davies continued to excel. In 2022, he won gold in discus at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, representing Wales. This victory was particularly special as he had not competed in discus for many years.
Davies has received numerous accolades. He was named Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2022 and Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2013. He also won the Senior Male Athlete of the Year award at the 2023 Welsh Athletics Annual Awards.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Davies is a motivational speaker and father to daughter Phoebe, born in 2019. He has also appeared on British survival TV show 'Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins' and worked as a sports commentator for World Athletics.
