Lex, an athlete from St Hilda's Aquatics in Southport, Queensland, has been making waves in the world of Para swimming. She began training with Para swimming coach Jon Bell in 2022 after a significant life event changed her career path. Lex was a competitive triathlete aiming for the Olympic Games before a road cycling accident resulted in a traumatic brain injury.

Under the guidance of Jon Bell at her club and national coaches Kate Sparkes and Harley Connolly, Lex has been honing her skills in the pool. Her dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. In 2023, she was named Emerging Athlete of the Year at the Australian Institute of Sport Sport Performance Awards in Melbourne.
Before her accident, Lex competed in triathlons and finished second in the age 18-19 women's event at the 2019 World Series Grand Final in Lausanne, Switzerland. This background in competitive sports has undoubtedly contributed to her resilience and determination.
Looking ahead, Lex aims to compete at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. This goal drives her daily training and preparation. Her commitment is evident in her daily ritual of writing affirmations on her mirror to stay motivated and focused.
Aside from sports, Lex has developed a passion for music following her recovery from the brain injury sustained in 2021. She believes this new awareness of music has been a positive outcome of her recovery process. "I upset my brain very badly. I got a traumatic brain injury, right? But in the back bit of your brain is music, and hyperness of music," she explained.
Lex's love for music led her to acquire DJ decks and create music mixes that have garnered attention from friends and fans alike. "I went so far with music out of the hospital. I got a pair of DJ decks and I made the best songs off my DJ decks," she said.
Lex's journey from a competitive triathlete to an emerging Para swimmer showcases her resilience and determination. With her eyes set on the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, she continues to train hard under expert guidance while also nurturing her newfound passion for music.
