Allysa Seely Biography

In January 2020, Polly faced a severe infection in her right leg, requiring surgery. After four weeks on crutches, another infection led to further surgery in March 2020. By July 2020, she discovered an infected bloodstream and was diagnosed with endocarditis. Six months in hospital followed before she returned to training in February 2021.

Despite these challenges, Polly's determination never wavered. She resumed competition in April 2023 after a series of surgeries in 2022, including heart surgery and operations on her abdomen and knee. However, she broke her foot in May 2023 but continued to push forward.

Achievements and Philosophy

Polly's achievements are noteworthy. She became the first female triathlete to win two Paralympic gold medals. She triumphed in the women's PT2 event at the 2016 Rio Games and the women's PTS2 category at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Her most memorable moment remains winning gold in Rio.

Her philosophy is clear: "Even though [Para athletes] have disabilities, we're still fast. Each one of us is racing with a different disability, but we can hold our own, and we take pride in that. Don't underestimate us."

Polly holds a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Arizona State University. She furthered her education with a master's degree in psychology, exercise, and wellness from the same institution.
