Andre Rocha Biography

He began his athletic journey in 2013 after reading about Para athletics. Despite his enthusiasm, he faced significant health issues. In 2015, he underwent spinal cord surgery, which sidelined him for seven months. Again in 2018, he required spine surgery, leading to a nine-month hiatus.

Achievements and Recognition

Despite these setbacks, his dedication paid off. He was named Male Para Athlete of the Year in Taubate, Brazil, in both 2015 and 2018. Additionally, he received the People's Athlete of the Year Award at the 2017 Paralympic Awards organised by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.

Involvement in Shooting Para Sport

Apart from athletics, he has also competed in shooting Para sport at a national level in Brazil. Initially drawn to shooting due to his military background, he found the initial investment too high and turned to track and field instead. However, he later decided to combine both sports.

Coaching and Leadership Roles

He has also contributed to the development of Para sports off the field. He serves as the high-performance coordinator for Programa Esporte Para Todos, a Para sports group based in Taubate, Brazil. His role involves promoting and organising sports activities for athletes with disabilities.
