All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament from June 2

Kochi, May 31 (UNI) More than 1,000 players from 23 states will vie for the top honours at the 8th Regional Sports Centre All India Junior Ranking Badminton (Shuttle) Tournament from June 2 here.

Speaking to reporters here today, RSC President and City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham said the event would be a selection tournament for the forthcoming Junior Asian Badminton Championship, to be held in Malaysia in July.

The events would be held in under-19, under-16, under-13 and under-10 in both boys and girls categories in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Chief Referee of the tournament S G Sulakhe said that while B Sumeeth Reddy (AP) and Anuradha Srikhande (Mah) got the top billing in junior boys' singles (U-19) and junior girls singles (u-19) respectively, Sameer Verma (MP) and Saili Rane (MAH) were the top seeds for the sub-junior singles (u-16) boys and girls categories respectively.

Geojit Financial Services was the main sponsor for the seven-day tournament, for which the total prize money was Rs two lakh.
