India's journey in the Uber Cup faced a significant setback as emerging badminton star Anmol Kharb sustained an ankle ligament tear, ruling her out of the quarterfinals.
The incident occurred during her match against China's Han Yue, where Kharb had to retire hurt after a distressing fall that resulted in her rolling her ankle.

"Anmol Kharab suffered an ankle ligament tear and won't be able to participate in the rest of the Uber Cup. She will take three weeks to recover," her coach Kusumm Singh revealed to MyKhel.
This injury not only sidelines Kharab for the remainder of the tournament but also puts her participation in upcoming competitions in doubt.
The injury occurred at a crucial moment during the second game of her match, where Kharab, after losing the first game 21-4, attempted a vigorous return. The mishap led to immediate pain and subsequent tears as she was assisted off the court by the medical team.
This was a huge blow to the Indian team, which was already facing an uphill battle in the tournament. India, having qualified for the quarter-finals from Group A in second place, had shown promise with a mix of youth and experience.
They had chosen to rest their leading player Ashmita Chaliha against China, giving other younger players like Isharani Baruah a chance to shine. Unfortunately, Baruah could not overcome the challenge posed by world number one Chen Yu Fei, losing in straight games 21-12, 21-10.
The first doubles pair, Priya Konjegbam and Shruti Mishra, also faced defeat against the strong Chinese duo of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan with scores of 21-13, 21-12.
On February 2024, Kharab played a pivotal role in India’s historic gold medal win at the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships. As India progresses without one of its key players, the team will need to regroup and refocus to face the challenges ahead in the Uber Cup.
The hope now rests on the remaining squad to step up in Kharab's absence and deliver performances that can carry the team forward in this prestigious tournament.
