Sydney, August 6: India's HS Prannoy will take on Weng Hong Yang of China in the Australian Open Badminton 2023 men's singles final at the State Sport Centre in Sydney, Australia on Sunday (August 6).
Sixth-seeded Prannoy progressed to the final after a straight games win over compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat by a scoreline of 21-18, 21-12 in the semi-final clash that lasted for 43 minutes on court 1.

Earlier in the quarter-final, Malaysia Masters 2023 champion Prannoy claimed a comeback win against top seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia. The Indian defeated the top-seeded Indonesian 16-21, 21-17, 21-14 in the last 8 clash.
In the earlier rounds, Prannoy overcame Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu in the first round and Chinese Taipei's Chi Yu Jen in the second round. Both the matches went into the third game to decide the winner.
Hong Yang, on the other hand, claimed a hard-fought win over Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia in the other semifinal to reach final. The Chinese shuttler defeated his Malaysian opponent 21-19, 13-21, 21-13 in the last 4 clash that lasted for an hour and 21 minutes on court 1.
Earlier in the quarter-final, the unseeded Chinese shuttler got past fifth seed Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei in straight games 21-10, 21-16 in the last 8 clash that went on for 47 minutes.
In the earlier rounds, the Chinese claimed straight game win over second-seeded Kodai Naraoka of Japan before sealing a match from game down against Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito.
Prannoy will now face an opponent he has already beaten once so far in the form of Weng Hong Yang. The Indian overcame the Chinese earlier this year to win the Malaysia Masters 2023 final in a three-game thriller, sealing the tie 21-19, 13-21, 21-18 in an hour and 34 minutes.
