Sydney, August 4: HS Prannoy will take on Priyanshu Rajawat in an all-Indian clash in the Australian Open Badminton 2023 men's singles semi-final at the State Sports Centre in Sydney, Australia on Saturday (August 5).

The recent Malaysia Masters champion Prannoy progressed to the semi-final after a hard-fought come-from-behind win against top seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in the quarter-final on Friday (August 4).

The sixth seeded India defeated the first-seeded Indonesian shuttler by a scoreline of 16-21, 21-17, 21-14 in the last 8 clash that lasted for an hour and 13 minutes on court 1.

In the earlier rounds, Prannoy overcame Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu in the first round and Chinese Taipei's Chi Yu Jen in the second round. Both the matches went into the third game to decide the winner.

Orleans Masters 2023 champions Rajawat, on the other hand, eased past compatriot and former world number 1 Kidambi Srikanth in the other quarter-final match to reach the men's singles semi-final.

The rising Indian shuttler, who reached his first World Tour Super 500 event this year, needed just 30 minutes to dismantle his superior compatriot by a scoreline of 21-13, 21-18 in the last 8 match that took place on court 4.

In the previous rounds, Rajawat eased past Australia's Nathan Tang in the opener before a hard fought win over Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei in the second round. This will be his second clash against Prannoy, who has won the only previous meeting between the two so far.

The duo met in Syed Modi India International tournament last year, where Prannoy clinched the match by a scoreline of 21-11, 16-21, 21-18 in the round of 16 stage at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow, UP.
