Badminton Asia Championships 2025: India's Challenge Ends After Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto Lose Quarter-Final

India's challenge in Badminton Asia Championships 2025 in Ningbo, China ended on Friday (April 11) after the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto exited the tournament in the quarter-final stage.

Kapila and Crasto, India's last remaining representatives at the tournament, lost by straight games 22-20, 21-13 to Hong Kong's fifth-seeded Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium.

The Indian pair, which had combined to win the 2023 Odisha Masters and 2024 Syed Modi International, played out a closely contested opening game, going point for point, but the Hong Kong duo held their nerve to take the game and then the match following a little easier second game. This was the first meeting between the pair.

With this result, the Indian challenge at the 2025 Badminton Asia Championships tournament was halted as singles players including PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and Malvika Bansod among others made early exits.

Earlier on Thursday (April 10), singles shuttlers Sindhu, Kiran George and Priyanshu Rajawat as well as doubles teams of Hariharan Amsakarunan/Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi and Ashith Surya/Amrutha Pramuthesh reached the Round of 16 before exiting the continental tournament.

Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu went down in three games against third seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan by a scoreline of 11-21, 21-16, 16-21. In men's singles, George lost to third seed Kunlavut Vitisdsarn of Thailand by a scoreline of 21-19, 13-21, 16-21, while Rajawat suffered a straight games loss to fifth seed Kodai Naraoka of Japan by a scoreline of 14-21, 17-21.

In mixed doubles, Ashith and Amrutha suffered a straight games defeat in the second round match against top seeds Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin of China by a scoreline of 11-21, 14-21, while men's doubles pair of Hariharan and Ruban also straight games 15-21, 14-21 against sixth seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia.
