India women clinched a historic gold at the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 after PV Sindhu, Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Anmol Kharb secured wins in the final against Thailand on Sunday (February 18) in Selangor, Malaysia.
The Indian team raced to a 2-0 lead after Sindhu and Jolly-Gopichand won their respective matches, but Thailand forced the decider by winning the next two singles and doubles match in the title clash with 17-year-old Kharb left with the task of sealing the match for India.

The youngster Anmol, who had sealed the final spot, once again sealed a crucial win that saw India upgrade their medal to gold, following straight games 21-14, 21-9 win over Pornpicha Choeikeewong in the final match of the title clash.
Congratulating the team on the title triumph, Badminton Association of India secretary Sanjay Mishra said, "It is a proud moment for all of us. It also underlined the depth of badminton talent in India and we are confident that this bunch of players will win many more titles in the coming years."
Earlier, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu, who had lost the opener in the semi-final against Japan on Saturday (February 17), bounced back in style as she eased to a straight games 21-12, 21-12 win over Supanida Katethong in the opening tie of the title clash to give India a 1-0 lead.
Following Sindhu's win, the doubles pair of Jolly and Gopichand continued the momentum to secure the opening game, but conceded the second game before sealing the match 21-16, 18-21, 21-16 against Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai, getting India close to a first-ever gold in BATC.
Ashmita Chaliha could have sealed the tie in India's favour early, but Busanan Ongbamrungphan pulled one back for Thailand with a straight games 21-11, 21-14 win in the third tie of the final.
Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra also lost their doubles match Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard by a scoreline of 11-21, 9-21, handing Thailand a way back in the title clash. However, Anmol continued with her form to land India's first-ever gold at BATC.
Earlier on Saturday (February 17), Indian women's team rode on the prowess of their young guns to upset top seed Japan 3-2 and reach their first-ever final of the Badminton Asia Team Championships.
The team, which had upset the mighty China in the group stage, once again showed that they are not intimidated by any opponent or any situation as the youngsters punched above their weight in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, the men's team, who had previously won bronze medals twice in the Badminton Asia Team Championships, finished without a medal in the BATC 2024 after going down to Japan in the semi-final.
