India's top junior badminton star Tanvi Patri clinched the Girls U-15 title in the Badminton Asia U-17 & U15 junior championships after a straight games win in the final in Chengdu, China, on Sunday (August 25).
The top seeded India saw off second seeded Nguyen Thi Thu Huygen of Vietnam 22-20, 21-11 in 34 minutes in the title clash to claim the girls singles title in the under-15 category.

She becomes the third Indian girl to win the title. Earlier, Samiya Imad Farooqui had won the u-15 girls singles crown in 2017 and Tasnim Mir was victorious in the same category in 2019.
"Tanvi Patri's title-winning run at the Badminton Asia Championships, along with Gnana Dattu's bronze medal in the U17 men's singles category, once again underlines the strong talent pool India possesses and the efforts of the Badminton Association of India to identify and nurture this talent," said BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra.
"The robust and extremely competitive domestic circuit has been playing an important role in preparing our top players for such major international events. I am confident that we will see many more title triumphs from not just Tanvi and Gnana, but other Indian juniors in the coming times."
Patri had earlier registered a dominating win over Thailand's Kungkaew Kakanik to reach the u-15 girls singles final on Saturday (August 24). Patri was made to work hard in the opening game by sixth seed Kakanik, but ultimately claimed a 21-19, 21-10 win in just 31 minutes.
Nguyen Thi Thu Huygen of Vietnam had got the better of China's Liu Yu Tong 21-18, 17-21, 21-19 in the other semifinal also on Saturday (August 24) to reach the girls u-15 final.
While Patri claimed gold, there was a heart-break for Gnana Dattu TT in the u-17 boys singles as he went down against Indonesia's Radithya Bayu Wardhana in three games and will return home with a bronze medal.
Gnana Dattu started aggressively against Radithya and looked on course to book a final spot when he easily grabbed the opening game. But the Indian lost momentum and also needed a medical time out as he went down 9-21, 21-13, 21-13.
In the last edition of the championships, India had won the gold medal in the boy's u-15 singles category and a silver in u-17 girls singles. Now, India ends the competition with 1 gold and 1 bronze. Here is a look at the results from Saturday and Sunday:
