Copenhagen, August 26: Top Indian shuttler HS Prannoy will face Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the men's singles semi-final of BWF World Championships 2023 on Saturday (August 26) at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Ninth seed Prannoy came from a game down to stun defending World Champion and top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark to reach the semi-final, assuring India a medal at this year's marquee badminton event.

The Indian shuttler defeated the home favourite 13-21, 21-15, 21-16 in the quarter-final match that lasted for an hour and eight minutes on Court 1 of the Royal Arena on Friday (August 25). This victory guaranteed Prannoy at least a bronze medal at the marquee event.
Earlier in the round of 16, Prannoy saw off another former World Champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore 21-18, 15-21, 21-19 before straight games wins over Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo of Indonesia (21-9, 21-14) and Kalle Koljonen of Finland (24-22, 21-10).
Vitidsarn, on the other hand, also registered a come-from-behind victory in the quarter-final, beating Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei by 18-21, 21-15, 21-13 in the last 8 match that lasted for an hour and 21 minutes on Court 2.
In the earlier rounds, the third seeded Thail shuttler claimed straight games wins over a couple of Brazilians - Jonathan Matias (21-16, 21-14) and Ygor Cohelo (21-9, 21-18) before a hard fought win over Prannoy's compatriot Lakshya Sen in the round of 16 by 21-14, 16-21, 21-13.
Now, the two will go head to head for the second time in their career, having already met once previously at the 2022 All England Open Badminton Championships, where Vitidsarn beat Prannoy in the round of 32 by straight game (21-15, 24-22).
Vitidsarn will look to enter his second final and go all the way this time, having finished runner up last year following defeat to Axelsen in the summit clash, while Prannoy, who has confirmed a bronze, will also look to better the colour to gold or silver by reaching the final.
The winner of Prannoy vs Vitidsarn will face the winner of the second semifinal of the day between Japanese fourth seed Kodai Naraoka and Denmark's twelfth seed Anders Antonsen.
