BWF World Championships 2026: Tickets Go Live as India Begins 50-Day Countdown to New Delhi Showpiece
With 50 days left for the BWF World Championships 2026 in New Delhi, the Badminton Association of India began the official countdown on Sunday. The event runs from August 17-23 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, brings over 55 countries and nearly 800 people, and returns to India after 17 years.
BAI President Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma said the event shows India’s progress in badminton and its ability to host top sport. The 30th edition will feature all five disciplines, while India looks to build on its record of winning at least one medal at every World Championships since 2011.

That run has given India 14 medals across 11 straight editions, a consistency matched only by China. Two-time Olympic and five-time World Championships medallist PV Sindhu, whose 2019 Basel gold remains India’s top title, said playing at home makes the tournament more meaningful.
Her words reflected the mood around Indian badminton, where the current generation will play a World Championships at home for the first time. Sanjay Mishra, General Secretary, Badminton Association of India, said the event comes as young players make regular progress and experienced athletes keep reaching the later stages.
