Indian women's doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand crashed out of the BWF World Tour Finals 2024 after straight games loss in their final Group A match at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Hangzhou on Friday (December 13).
The lone Indian challengers at the year-end badminton tournament, Jolly and Gopichand went down against Japanese duo Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida by a scoreline of 17-21, 13-21 in the third group match that lasted 49 minutes on court 2.

The result ensured the Japanese world number four pair and 2021 runners up, Shida-Matsuyama will join the top seeds Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China in the semi-final round from Group A. The last four matches will be played on Saturday (December 14).
Shengshu and Ning duo sealed their last four spot with their third win on the trot. The Chinese pair edged out Malaysian pair of Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, who also exit the tournament, having finished winless in the group stage.
Earlier, Treesa and Gayatri suffered a narrow 22-20, 20-22, 14-21 loss in their opening match of the group against the Chinese pair before bouncing back with a close straight games win over Tan and Muralitharan by a scoreline of 21-19, 21-19 in their second match on Thursday (December 12) to keep their semifinal hopes alive.
However, the Indian duo's journey came to an end following the defeat to the Japanese duo as the result saw them finish third in their group with just one point from three games. Chinese pair topped the group followed by the Japanese duo, while the Malaysian pair finished last.
The Chinese duo of Shengshu and Ning will next face the runner up from Group B, which is currently being topped by their compatriots Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, who could be Shida and Matsuyama's opponents in the semi-final.
The other three teams in Group B are: Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi of Indonesia, Korean pair Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee and another Japanese duo of Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi, who are also the second seeds.
