India's PV Sindhu showcased grit and experience to book her place in the Round-of-16 of the China Open 2025, a BWF Super 1000 event being held at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou.
The two-time Olympic medallist overcame World No. 6 Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan in a high-octane three-game encounter, winning 21-15, 8-21, 21-17.

Sindhu, currently ranked World No. 15, started strong, taking the first game with clinical precision. However, Miyazaki bounced back with a dominant second game, levelling the match with ease. In the decider, Sindhu reasserted control, using her superior court coverage and mental resilience to maintain a steady lead and eventually close out the match. The win marks an encouraging sign for Sindhu, who has been working to regain her top form in the 2025 season.
In the Men's Doubles category, Indian hopes were further boosted as the dynamic duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the Round-of-16. Ranked No. 12 in the world, the pair delivered a commanding performance to oust Japan's Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura in straight games, 21-13, 21-9. Their swift victory underlines their continued consistency on the BWF World Tour.
Elsewhere, in the Women's Doubles draw, the Panda sisters, Rutaparna and Swetaparna, bowed out of the competition after a hard-fought match against an experienced pair from Hong Kong China. Despite a spirited effort, they couldn't advance further in the tournament.
