China tournament: No names in draw, 4 Indian shuttlers sit idle

Mumbai, Aug 18: Four Indian shuttlers, including two girls, have been sitting idle in the athletes village in the ongoing Asian Youth Games in Nanjing in China for their names have not been included in the tournament draw.

The four members are Rituparna Das from West Bengal, Reshma Karthik (Karnataka), Harsheel Dani (Maharashtra) and Adhitya Joshi (Gujarat). The quartet reached the venue with other members of the Indian contingent for the Games which started on August 16 and will continue till August 24. This is the second edition of the youth tournament.

Sources said the shuttlers have been sitting idle in the camp, located about 40 kilometres from the city centre, ever since they have landed in China for their names have been missing from the draw for both the men's and women's singles. The players have been accompanied by a coach from Punjab.

The official Games website mentions about the name of the four players under the heading 'Athletes' although they don't feature in the draw. The Badminton Association of India said the names of the quartet had been sent in May.
