Denmark Open 2026: PV Sindhu Drawn Against World No. 1 An Se-young In Tough First-Round Clash

New Delhi, Oct 12: Indian badminton star PV Sindhu faces another stern test on the BWF World Tour after being drawn against world No. 1 An Se-young in the opening round of the Denmark Open 2026, a Super 750 tournament that begins in Odense on Tuesday.

The two-time Olympic medallist will be eager to bounce back after her campaign at last week's Arctic Open ended in the quarter-finals, where she suffered a three-game defeat to Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon.

However, Sindhu faces a daunting challenge against South Korea's An, the reigning Olympic champion, having lost all 10 of their previous meetings. Ranked 10th in women's singles, the Indian will look to produce a strong performance against the top seed and overcome her difficult record against the Korean shuttler.

Sindhu, who won the Japan Open Super 750 title earlier this year, will lead India's women's singles challenge alongside Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha, Devika Sihag and Unnati Hooda. Tanvi and Ashmita have also enjoyed successful seasons, winning the Taipei Open and Korea Masters, respectively, in August.

In men's singles, Lakshya Sen will aim to regain momentum after an inconsistent season affected by injuries. The All England Championships runner-up faces world No. 3 Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei in his opening match. Ayush Shetty and former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth, the 2017 Denmark Open champion, will also represent India.

Men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will return to action following their quarter-final exit at the Asian Games 2026. The Indian duo have already won the Singapore Open and China Masters this year and will target another BWF World Tour title in Denmark.

In women's doubles, World Championships bronze medallists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will spearhead India's campaign, alongside Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda. India will not have any representatives in the mixed doubles draw.
