London, Jul 31: The country's young boxers are stealing the spotlight at the ongoing London Games just like they did at Beijing four years ago. Today Laishram Devendro Singh completely outclassed Bayron Figueroa Molina of Honduras in the 49 kg weight category here.

The 20-year-old, hailing from Imphal, rained so many blows on his opponent in the first round that the latter was stunned. After two standing counts, it was clear that Bayron was not in a position to withstand any more punches.

The referee therefore stopped the bout and declared Devendro as the winner. The technical knock out or TKO will surely boost the Indian's confidence and one can expect him to do well in the pre-quarter final.

It was a good day for the nation overall as three of its talented youngsters reached the last 16 in their respective disciplines.

First to make the headlines was Parupalli Kashyap. The badminton player defeated Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh 21-9, 21-14 in the men's singles. The win was remarkable since the latter is ranked 11 places above him.

After Kashyap and Devendro, it was the turn of Rahul Banerjee to excel. In the 1/32 elimination round, the archer trounced Jantsan Gantugs of Mongolia 6-0 to move into the next round of the men's singles individual event.
