Former Indian badminton player Dinesh Khanna has expressed support for Prakash Padukone's recent criticism regarding the Indian badminton contingent's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Padukone, a revered figure in Indian badminton and mentor to current star Lakshya Sen, voiced his discontent after Sen's loss in the bronze medal match against Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia.

"I and Vimal are not happy with the fourth position of Lakshya (Sen). He could have definitely gotten a medal," Padukone said following Sen's defeat.
Sen, who lost 21-13, 16-21, 11-21, missed out on securing a podium finish, marking the first time since the 2012 London Games that India failed to win a badminton medal. In previous Games, PV Sindhu had clinched a silver in 2016 and a bronze in 2021.
The 1965 Asian Championships gold medalist, Dinesh Khanna echoed Padukone's sentiments, emphasizing that despite the extensive support provided by the government and badminton federation, the onus remains on the players to deliver results.
"I completely agree with Prakash Padukone's comments. The government and federation are definitely providing a lot of help, there's no doubt about it.
"Lakshya Sen is being trained by both Prakash Padukone and Vimal Kumar, and all his needs are being taken care of, but ultimately, it's the player who has to perform on the field," Khanna remarked.
He also pointed to the mental pressures athletes face on such a grand stage. "Players often come under mental pressure, and today, I felt several times that Lakshya Sen was playing under pressure.
"The Olympics is a very big platform, and for that, you have to play with composure and a cool mind. Holding your nerves is very important, and I think mental aspects are also crucial in these kinds of matches," Khanna added.
