German Open 2025: Dhruv Kapila, Tanisha Crasto Enter Semifinals; Indian Rising Singles Stars Bow Out

Mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto kept India's challenge alive at the German Open 2025 after the duo entered the semifinals of the BWF Super 300 tournament following straight games win over Gao Jia Xuan and Wu Meng Ying of China in Mulheim an der Ruhr, Germany on Friday (February 28).

The eighth seeded Indian duo defeated the Chinese pair by a scoreline of 21-14 21-17 in the quarterfinal clash that lasted 30 minutes on court 3 of the Westenergie Sporthalle. The Indian pair will next meet Indonesia's Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the last four on Saturday.

Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila keep India s challenge alive in German Open 2025

While Kapila and Crasto moved to the semi-final, several rising singles stars from the country crashed out of the tournament on Friday (February 28) following results in their respective matches. Rakshitha Sree Santosh Ramraj lost to Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark 12-21 12-21 to bow out of women's singles quarterfinals.

Also in women's singles, Unnati Hooda dropped a lead to go down 21-15, 23-25, 22-24 in a hard-fought last eight contest against Japan's Riko Gunji, while Tasnim Mir, who also took the lead, was forced to withdraw from the contest after losing the second game with the contest ending 21-19, 12-21.

Tharun Mannepalli also crashed out of the tournament after losing 16-21 21-17 21-8 to Toma Junior Popov in the men's singles quarterfinals. Earlier, much more experienced singles players like Aakarshi Kashyap, Kiran George and Priyanshu Rajawat had crashed out following defeats in their respective matches.

Rajawat went down to Frenchman Toma Junior Popov by a scoreline of 21-16, 18-21, 4-21 in the second round on Thursday (February 27), when George lost to Wang Zhengxing of China by a scoreline of 18-21, 13-21.

Akarshi Kashyap also suffered a straight games loss in the women's singles second round against Vietnam's Nguyễn Thùy Linh by a scoreline of 14-21, 17-21. In women's doubles, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra went down without a fight against China's Keng Shu Liang and Li Hua Zhou, losing 9-21, 4-21.
