Gopi's academy to be a continental training centre

Hyderabad, Aug 17: P Gopichand's badminton academy is reportedly going to be awarded a well-deserved special status.

According to a Times of India report published on Monday, Aug 17 the academy is going to achieve the status of Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) continental training centre and also Badminton Association of Malaysia's national training centre.

The report says that the planned continental centre would be on the lines of the thee World Training Centre that are run by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in Sofia (Bulgaria), Guangzhou (China) and Saarbrucken (Germany).

The legendary shuttler who took Indian badminton to a higher level by lifting prestigious trophy like All-England Open Badminton Championship in 2001, managed to impress the world by setting up the badminton academy in Hyderabad in Jul 2008.

42 ft in height and 270 ft in length, the biggest badminton academy in India has eight courts. The shuttler who proved his determination and perseverance in the court, proved his dedication to the sport by single handedly setting up this academy.

Puella Gopichand is the chief national coach and has been coaching India's new favorite shuttler Saina Nehwal.
