India start with easy win against Russia in world junior badminton

Pune, Oct 24 (UNI) Indians had a good day when they beat Russia 4-1 in the World Junior Badminton tourney, which got underway at the Shiv Chhatrapati sports city, Balewadi here today.

Guru Sai Datta gave India a good start when he beat Matazov Nikolay in straight sets at 21-7, 21-7. Saina Nehwal then made it 2-0 with a straight sets victory over Perminova Natalia at 21-9, 21-14.

The Indian boys doubles team of B Sai Praneeth and Pranav Chopra eased passed the Russian pair of Abramov Konstantin and Egerev Yaroslav 21-14, 21-9 to put India in an unassailable lead of 3-0.

Though the Indian girls doubles team of P C Thulasi and Sikki Reddy lost their match to Gabadullinea Romina and Chervyakova Anastasia at 19-21, 17-21, the mixed doubles pair of Saina Nehwal and Guru Sai Datta saw that India won the tie 4-1 when they easily beat the challenge of Scherbin Sergey and Nazarchuk Anastasia 21-14, 21-14.

Following are the results: India Vs Russia Boy's Singles: Guru Sai Datta (Ind) beat Matazov Nikolay (Rus) 21-7, 21-7.

Girls Singles: Saina Nehwal (Ind) beat Perminova Natalia (Rus) 21-9, 21-14.

Boys Doubles: B Sai Praneeth and Pranav Chorta (Ind) beat Abramov Konstantin and Egerev Yaroslav (Rus) 21-14, 21-9.

Girls Doubles: P C Thulasi and Reddy Sikki (Ind) lost to Gabadullinea Romina and Chervyakova Anastasia (Rus) 19-21, 17-21.

Mix Doubles: Saina Nehwal and Guru Sai Datta (Ind) beat Scherbin Sergey and Nazarchuk Anastasia (Rus) 21-14, 21-14.
