Indonesia Open 2025: Satwik And Chirag Lose To Malaysia's Top Pair In Quarterfinals

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty exited the Indonesia Open after a quarterfinal loss to Malaysia's duo, marking their first defeat to this pair. The Indian team struggled with service and errors, concluding their tournament journey.

India's top men's doubles team, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, exited the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament after losing in the quarterfinals on Friday (June 6).

They were defeated by Malaysia's Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, marking their first loss to this pair in five encounters. The match ended with scores of 19-21, 16-21 in a 43-minute battle in the Indonesia Open 2025.

Indonesia Open 2025 Satwik And Chirag Lose To Malaysia s Top Pair In Quarterfinals

The defeat of Satwik and Chirag concluded India's involvement in the tournament. The Indian duo struggled with their service and returns against the Malaysians, who had previously won the Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Masters earlier this year. Their defensive play was lacking, leading to frequent errors under pressure from their opponents.

Challenging Match Dynamics

Satwik's net errors gave the Malaysians an early advantage, which they held until the mid-game break. Although the Indians managed to level the score at 11-all through aggressive play, they couldn't maintain momentum. This allowed the Malaysian pair to regain control and secure a lead once more.

The second game began unfavourably for the Indians as they fell behind 3-7. The Malaysians capitalised on flat shots and court conditions to widen their lead. Despite a spirited comeback attempt that brought them within two points at 16-18, Man's skillful net play and Tee's decisive shot at 20-16 secured four match points for Malaysia.

End of India's Tournament Journey

The Malaysian duo quickly converted these match points to advance to the semifinals. This marked a disappointing end for Satwik-Chirag, who had been champions in 2023 but struggled against their well-prepared opponents this time around. With this, India's challenge in the ongoing competition also came to an end.
