Indian doubles shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Crasto will be in Malaysia Open 2024 quarter-final action on Friday (January 12) at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Satwik-Chirag, the world number 2 pair, got past the French duo of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labrar by straight games 21-11, 21-18 in the men's doubles second round match. They will now face Chinese pair He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu in the quarter-final.

This will be Rankireddy and Shetty's second meeting as a pair against the Chinese pair, whom they defeated by straight games 21-15, 22-20 in last year's China Masters semi-final.
Crasto-Ponnappa pair, meanwhile, registered a stunning three games 21-19, 13-21, 21-15 win over former world number 1 pair from Japan - Mayu Matsumoto & Wakana Nagahara in the women's doubles second round match. They will now face another Japanese pair in the quarter-final.
Crasto and Ponnappa will go up against Japan's Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakawashi, a pair, whom the Indian duo lost to in their only meeting that ended 21-14, 17-21, 21-15 in favour of the Japanese in last year's Syed Modi India International Badminton tournament.
