Prannoy went down fighting against China's Li SHi Feng in the men's singles pre-quarterfinals. The 32-year-old Indian, returning to action after the Paris Olympics, recovered from an opening-game reversal to stay in contention but fell short, losing 8-21, 21-15, 21-23 in an hour and 22 minutes to seventh seed Li.

Meanwhile, the women's doubles pair of Jolly and Gopichand dropped a first game lead as they suffered a 21-15, 19-21, 19-21 defeat to China's Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in their round of 16 match that also lasted for an hour and 22 minutes.
In mixed doubles, Kapila and Crasto, who had reached the final of the Syed Modi Super 300 International Tournament last year, went down in straight games 13-21, 20-22 to China's seventh seed Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi in 44 minutes.
Mixed doubles duo of Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath also crashed out of the Malaysia Super 1000 badminton tournament following straight games defeat on Thursday (January 9).
Sathish and Aadya, who defeated fellow Indians Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh to progress, went down 10-21, 17-21 to fourth-seeded Malaysian pair of Soon Huat Goh and Shevon Jemie Lai in the mixed doubles round of 16 match that lasted just 32 minutes.
Later in the day, last year's finalists in men's doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, along with rising women's singles shuttler Malvika Bansod, will take to the court for their respective second round matches.
Satwik-Chirag, the Asian Games gold medallists, will take on Malaysia's own Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong in the men's doubles second round, while Bansod will face third seed Han Yue of China in the women's singles pre-quarters.
Earlier on Wednesday (January 8), Akarshi Kashyap, Anupama Upadhaya and Priyanshu Rajawat were the Indian singles to fall in the opening round, while women's doubles pairs of Tanisha and Ashwini Ponnappa as well as the Panda sisters - Swetaparna and Rutaparna also suffered early exits.
