India's top medal contenders in Paris 2024, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created history by becoming the first doubles pair from the country to qualify for the quarter-finals in Olympics.
The world number 3 pair, who had already sealed a last eight spot, notched up a dominating straight-game win against Indonesian duo of Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian to top Group C in men's doubles badminton competition at the Paris Olymics 2024.

The reigning Asian Games champion Indian pair had also defeated French pair Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar in their other group stage match. In fact, the Indian duo had sealed their quarterfinal spot even before they faced the Indonesian pair.
Satwik and Chirag were scheduled to meet the German duo of Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel on Monday (July 29) in what was supposed to to be their second Group C match. But the match was cancelled following the withdrawal of Lamsfuss due to injury.
As a result, the Group C was considered as a three-pair affair. With the duo of Corvee and Labar losing both their matches, Satwik-Chirag and the Indonesian pair of Alfian-Ardianto also progressed to the knockouts.
Only two teams from each of the four groups qualify for the quarterfinals. Now, the Indian pair will face very familiar opponents in the knockouts - the quarterfinal on August 1 and the semifinal on August 2. Here is a look at the men's doubles badminton draw:
In the draw held for the quarterfinals on Wednesday (July 31), it was revealed that Rankireddy and Shetty will face Malaysian pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the quarterfinal.
If they progress to the next round, the Indian duo will face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between top seeds Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang of China and Indonesia's Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
