Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto have been a dominant force in men's doubles badminton since their partnership began in July 2014. They quickly made a name for themselves by winning the 2014 Indonesia International Challenge in their debut, marking the start of an impressive career.

This early success was followed by a Grand Prix title at the 2016 Chinese Taipei Masters, a victory that established them as a pair to watch.

Their consistency and skill have earned them ten World Tour titles, including notable wins at the Thailand Open in 2019 and the Indonesia Masters in 2020. The duo also showcased their talent at the BWF World Championships in 2019, reaching the quarterfinals.

In 2022, Alfian and Ardianto's hard work was recognized with the prestigious BWF award for Most Improved Player. That same year, they achieved the top spot in the World Rankings in December, holding it for over 13 weeks, a testament to their exceptional performance.

Their achievements extend beyond BWF tournaments. At the 2018 Asian Games, they secured a bronze medal in the men's doubles event.

They have also excelled at the Malaysia Masters, winning their second title in 2023 after a convincing victory over their compatriots Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. Their first Malaysia Masters win was in 2018 against Malaysia's Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong.

The Indonesian pair's dominance continued with a win at the 2022 Indonesia Masters, where they defeated the Chinese pair Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang. They further solidified their reputation by winning their first All England title in 2023, defeating Ahsan and Setiawan in the men's doubles final in Birmingham.

Despite their successes, Alfian and Ardianto have faced tough competition. At the Korea Open 2023, they were defeated by the Indian duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

This victory was the third for the Indian pair in their five encounters with the Indonesians. Their head-to-head history includes memorable matches, such as the 2017 Indonesia Open and the 2019 Thailand Open, where Rankireddy and Shetty claimed their first win against Alfian and Ardianto.
