Oscar to participate in International Badminton Championships

Chandigarh, June 19 (UNI) Oscar Bansal, a Chandigarh badminton player, has made the city proud by his selection as a member of the Indian Junior Badminton Team (U-19), which will participate in International Badminton Championships in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand from 24 July to 19 August.

Chandigarh Badminton Association General Secretary TPS Puri today said that according to a communication received by the Chandigarh Badminton Association from the Badminton Association of India (BAI), Oscar had to join the preparatory camp being conducted at Cochin from June 25.

Student of local Vivek High School, Oscar Bansal was spotted by the famous national badminton coach Surinder Mahajan of Chandigarh, when he had noticed potential and spark in the boy of becoming a national level player.

The state badminton association has been sponsoring this player right from his entry into the mini age group.

''The exposure as a member of the India's Junior Badminton team in international matches will give him more confidence and the Chandigarh Association is certain that he will get a berth in the team for Commonwealth Games also'', said Mr Puri.
