New Delhi, Jul 12: The draws for the Paris Olympics 2024 badminton events have been released, barring the men's doubles discipline. Indian men's singles players face a challenging path.

Lakshya Sen will contend against third-seeded Jonatan Christie, along with Kevin Cordon of Guatemala, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, and Julien Carraggi.

Meanwhile, HS Prannoy has a comparatively easier group stage, paired with shuttlers from Vietnam and Germany. Should both Indian men win their group matches, they are set to face each other in the pre-quarterfinals.

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, has managed to avoid her rivals An Se Young and Tai Tzu Ying. Topping her group could lead her to a match against He Bing Jiao of China, whom she defeated at the Tokyo Olympics to secure bronze, and potentially against the reigning Olympic champion, Chen Yu Fei.

In women's doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto face a tough group that includes Japan's top pair Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida, the bronze medalists from Korea at Tokyo Olympics, and Australia's top duo. Their path to the quarterfinals will likely require an upset victory.

A dispute between the French badminton federation and the World Badminton Federation caused an extra entry of a French pair at the Paris Olympics due to an exemption. The draws are currently postponed until the next news.
