By Rishab V M

India will field four members in the men's badminton category at the 2024 Paris Olympics: HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen in singles, and the formidable doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

While the doubles duo has emerged as India's most consistent performers, the singles players have had contrasting fortunes in the lead-up to the Games. Follow our elaborated Paris Olympics Coverage

Paris OIympics Lakshya Sen to Satwik-Chirag

Men's Doubles:

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty:

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been the standout performers for Indian badminton in recent times. Their meteoric rise to the world number three ranking is a testament to their exceptional talent, hard work, and strategic brilliance. The pair has exhibited remarkable consistency, consistently reaching the latter stages of tournaments and clinching multiple titles.

Their most recent success came at the French Open, where they clinched the title, cementing their position as one of the world's top doubles pairs. This consistent performance has placed them among the favorites for a medal at the Paris Olympics. They also reached the finals of the Malaysian Open and Indian Open but finished runners-up on both occasions.

Men's Singles

HS Prannoy

HS Prannoy, the veteran of the Indian squad, showcased his resilience and experience at the Australian Open earlier this year, progressing to the quarterfinals. However, his subsequent form has been inconsistent, with early exits in several tournaments. While Prannoy possesses the ability to produce upsets, consistency will be crucial for him to mount a strong challenge at the Olympics.

Lakshya Sen

Lakshya Sen, the young gun of Indian badminton, has shown immense potential but has lacked consistency. After a promising 2022, where he reached the World Championships final, Sen has faced challenges in maintaining that level of performance. His best result in 2024 was reaching the semifinals of the All-England Open, where he fell short against Jonatan Christie. While Sen has the talent to compete with the best, he needs to find consistency to be a serious medal contender.
