Paris Olympics 2024 Badminton: Know All About Lakshya Sen’s Belgian Opponent Julien Carraggi

Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen is poised for a significant challenge as he prepares to face Belgian talent Julien Carraggi at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Monday (July 29).

Following the withdrawal of Kevin Cordon, Sen's journey in the group stage has taken an unexpected turn. Cordon's exit has transformed Group L into a three-player contest, resetting Sen's progress and intensifying the competition.

Julien Carraggi ranked 52nd in the world, has shown considerable promise on the international badminton scene. His career took off at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, where he contributed to his team's bronze medal victory in the mixed team event.

Carraggi continued to build his reputation by clinching the Belgian Badminton Championships in both 2021 and 2022. His triumphs include a decisive win over Frédéric Gaspard in 2021 and a hard-fought victory against Yaro van Delsen in 2022.

On the international stage, Carraggi marked his presence by winning his first senior international title at the 2023 Dutch International tournament, defeating Joran Kwekeel in the final. He maintained his momentum by securing the Austrian Open title, overcoming Huang Yu-kai from Chinese Taipei.

In 2024, Carraggi demonstrated his skill and determination by reaching the second round of the BWF World Championships, where he narrowly lost to Japan's Kenta Nishimoto. This year, Carraggi is also a top-seeded player at the YONEX Belgian International, where he is eager to compete in front of his home crowd in Leuven.

Carraggi's Paris Olympics campaign began with a 2-1 loss to Indonesia's Jonatan Christie. Despite winning the first game 21-18, Carraggi was unable to maintain his lead, losing the next two games 11-21 and 16-21. This result adds pressure to his upcoming match against Lakshya Sen, making it a critical encounter for both players.

For Lakshya Sen, the road ahead is clear but challenging. His initial victory over Kevin Cordon, with scores of 21-8 and 22-20, has been nullified by Cordon's withdrawal.

Sen now faces the task of winning his remaining matches against Carraggi on Monday (July 29) and Christie on Wednesday (July 31) to advance to the knockout stage. The stakes are high, and Sen must leverage his skills and experience to secure his place in the next round.
