By Meeth Agrawal

As Lakshya Sen gears up for his crucial bronze medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024, his opponent, Lee Zii Jia, stands as a formidable challenge. Hailing from Malaysia, the 26-year-old Lee Zii Jia is well-known in the badminton world for his explosive play style, particularly his powerful backhand smashes.

Born on March 29, 1998, Lee Zii Jia's journey in badminton began at the tender age of six, thanks to his parents, who introduced him to the sport. Over the years, he has developed into a prominent player on the international stage, currently ranked World No. 7.

Who is Lee Zii Jia

One of Lee's most notable achievements came in March 2021, when he won his first Super 1000 tournament at the All England Open. In a thrilling match, he defeated the defending champion Viktor Axelsen with scores of 30-29, 20-22, 21-9. This victory not only showcased his resilience and skill but also marked his arrival as a serious contender in men's singles badminton.

Lee Zii Jia has also represented Malaysia in the Thomas Cup, securing a bronze medal in the 2024 Chengdu edition of the men's team event. His participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics saw him reach the Round of 16, and he now aims to go further and secure his first Olympic medal in Paris.

At the Paris Olympics 2024, Lee Zii Jia faced a tough semi-final match against Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, where he narrowly missed out on a spot in the final. This loss set up the bronze medal clash with Lakshya Sen, adding another chapter to their competitive rivalry.
