President Droupadi Murmu showcased her enthusiasm for sports by playing badminton with renowned shuttler Saina Nehwal at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi. This event highlighted her natural affinity for games and sports.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan shared on X that President Murmu's love for sports was evident during her game with Saina Nehwal.

On Thursday, Saina Nehwal, who has been honoured with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, will deliver a talk and interact with the audience at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre. This event is part of the 'Her Story – My Story' lecture series featuring women Padma Awardees.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Murmu unveiled the prestigious Durand Cup, the President's Cup, and the Shimla Trophy at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The 133rd edition of the Durand Cup football tournament will commence on July 27 and conclude on August 31.
In her brief remarks during the unveiling ceremony, President Murmu noted that football is one of the most popular sports globally. "When professional footballers play in front of thousands of fans, the excitement of the players and spectators increases manifold," she said.
The President extended her best wishes to all participants in the Durand Cup Tournament 2024. She emphasized that whether they win or lose, players should engage in healthy competition and respect other teams.
"Sometimes, there are impulses and passions in the game, but players must try their best to channel their emotions and perform their best in the game," said President Murmu. She expressed confidence that all players would play with determination and a spirit of sportsmanship.
Murmu also urged all football enthusiasts to contribute towards elevating the level of football in India. Her call to action aims to inspire collective efforts to enhance the sport's stature within the country.
