PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen Shine as India Celebrate Double Triumph at HYLO Open 2026

New Delhi, November 1: Indian badminton enjoyed a memorable Sunday as PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen clinched the women's and men's singles titles, respectively, at the HYLO Open 2026, bringing the curtains down on a remarkable week for the country at the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament in Saarbrücken, Germany.

Sindhu continued her impressive run of form, producing a commanding performance to defeat Denmark's Line Hojmark Kjarsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the women's singles final. The second-seeded Indian needed just 39 minutes to seal the contest, maintaining her flawless record throughout the tournament by winning every match in straight games.

The triumph added another significant chapter to Sindhu's season, coming just a week after she finished runner-up at the French Open. Having already secured the Japan Open title earlier this year, the former world champion has demonstrated renewed consistency and confidence following a challenging 2025 campaign.

Reflecting on her successful fortnight, Sindhu credited her team's planning and preparation while emphasising the importance of patience and continuous improvement.

"It has been an amazing two weeks, I would say. Hats off to my whole team; we've been planning accordingly. As you keep growing, it's important to get your things better and be smarter in what you choose. But I think at the same time it was important for me to just stay calm. More than anything, there is still room to improve," Sindhu said.

Her campaign also featured a notable semi-final victory over 19-year-old compatriot Anmol Kharb, underlining the growing depth of Indian women's singles badminton.

In the men's singles final, Lakshya Sen delivered an equally impressive performance, overpowering Indonesia's fourth-seeded Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 in 39 minutes. The Indian controlled proceedings with an assured display, wrapping up the title in straight games to register his first tournament victory of the season. The win also brought his head-to-head record against Christie to level terms.

For Sen, the victory was particularly satisfying after a prolonged wait for a tournament title. Speaking after his triumph, the Indian shuttler expressed delight at his performance, especially against quality opposition in the closing rounds.

"It's been quite some time since I've won a tournament, so it feels really good to play this well. The last two matches that I played were really top-quality opponents, and I managed to beat them convincingly. I'm happy with the way I played and really happy to win a tournament," he said.

The double success marked a significant milestone for Indian badminton, with two Indian shuttlers winning singles titles at the same BWF World Tour event at Super 500 level or above for the first time in four years.

The last such double-title achievement came at the 2022 India Open, where Sen captured the men's singles crown, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty emerged victorious in men's doubles.

With Sindhu rediscovering her winning touch and Sen returning to the top of the podium, India's campaign at the HYLO Open proved to be a timely boost for the country's badminton ambitions.
