PV Sindhu Seizes Australian Open Semifinal Spot In Sydney, Set To Meet Yamaguchi
World No. 10 PV Sindhu reached the Australian Open semifinals in Sydney with a clear win over Chen Su Yu of Chinese Taipei. The third seed dominated at the Quaycentre, claiming a 21-6, 21-9 result in a match that lasted only 27 minutes.
This is Sindhu's second semifinal of the 2026 season. She earlier made the last four at the Malaysia Open 2026. The Australian Open run adds key match time ahead of a busy year. Sindhu controlled both games from the start and did not face pressure.

The semifinal brings a high-profile clash with top seed Akane Yamaguchi. Sindhu is a two-time Olympic medallist, while Yamaguchi is a three-time world champion. Their meeting in Sydney will be their 29th match on tour, with Sindhu leading their record 15-13.
Recent form slightly backs the Japanese player. Yamaguchi has won four of their last five meetings. She entered the semifinals after a 21-14, 21-14 win over India's Tanvi Sharma. That quarterfinal in Sydney finished in 32 minutes and underlined her strong defence and control.
There was mixed news for India in men's doubles. The pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun had to retire during the second game of their match against rivals from Chinese Taipei.
