World C'ships: P V Sindhu loses in semis, settles for bronze

Bangalore, Aug 10: Indian shuttler P V Sindhu lost to the 4th seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-10, 21-13 in the semi-final match at the World Badminton Championships at Guangzhou, China.

The 18-year-old who assured herself a medal at the World's by defeating the former world no.1 Shixian Wang of China in straight games 21-18, 21-17 on Friday.

Sindhu had a tough semi-final match with the Thailand opponent Inatanon, who stood supreme today at the net and also with powerful smashes allowing her to settle with the bronze medal.

P V Sindhu now became the only second Indian singles player to win a medal after Prakash Padukone and has ended a 30-year wait for India. Padukone had won the men's singles bronze in 1983 at Copenhagen (Denmark).

Overall, Sindhu is the third Indian woman to claim a medal at World Championships. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa had won the doubles bronze in London in 2011.
