Kuala Lumpur, May 26: India's PV Sindhu will take on Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the women's singles semi-final in the Malaysia Masters 2023 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday (May 27).

The two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu booked her semi-final berth after a hard-fought win against China's Zhang Yi Man. Sixth-seeded Sindhu defeated the unseeded Chinese shuttler 21-16, 13-21, 22-20 in the quarter-final that lasted for an hour and 14 minutes.

In the earlier rounds, the Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Sindhu defeated Denmark's Line Christophersen in a closely contested first round match by 21-13, 17-21, 21-18 before easing past Japanese Aya Ohori in the second round via straight games 21-16, 21-11.

Tunjung, on the other hand, eased past second-seeded Wang Zhi Yi for straight games win to reach the semi-final. The Indonesian shuttler defeated the Chinese 21-11, 21-14 in the quarter-final match that lasted for 39 minutes.

In the earlier rounds, the seventh-seeded Indonesian claimed straight game wins, starting with 21-19, 21-12 first round victory over Chinese Taipei's Pai Yu Po followed by a 21-1, 21-19 win over South Korea's Sim Yu Jin in the second round.

Now, Sindhu will face an opponent she has had much success against in the form of Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. The Indian has got the better of her Indonesian opponent in six of the seven previous attempts, losing only in the recent meeting in Madrid Masters 2023 Final.
