Jakarta, Jun 24: Achieving a massive milestone for Indian badminton, Saina Nehwal on Thursday, Jun 24 grabbed the third spot in world rankings.
Saina, who holds the record of being the first Indian woman to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Olympics, was ranked sixth in the earlier Badminton World Federation ranking.
Now, by leaping three spots to claim the world number three ranking, Saina has touched a new high not only for her career but also for Indian sports.
The 20-year-old is currently playing the Indonesian Open. The defending champion has already reached the quarter finals at the tournament.
Last week, the top-seed shutter clinched Singapore Open by thumping Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria 21-12, 21-17 in just 29 minutes.
Saina, who grabbed the India Open Grand Prix title before her campaign in Singapore, will be pocketing her third Super Series title if secures a victory even in Jakarta.
