Birmingham, March 9: World No.3 shuttler Saina Nehwal of India won a thrilling and tight encounter against former World No.1 Shixian Wang here at the National Indoor Arena Friday to reach the women's singles semifinals at the All England Open Badminton Championships.
However, it was curtains for India in men's singles as Parupalli Kashyap went down to second seed Long Chen of China in straight games. The Chinese won 21-16, 21-10 in 43 minutes to go 4-1 in career head-to-head.
Saina, who reached the semis in 2010 also, overcame nemesis Shixian of China in the decider.
