Saina sails into third round; mixed day for Indians

Pune, Oct 29 (UNI) Top seed Saina Nehwal moved into the third round in the individual events of the World Junior Badminton Championship here today.

The Indians otherwise had a mixed day in the individual events, with P C Thulasi making short work of Tan Lianne of Belgium in straight sets at 21-9 21-16. However, Prajakta Sawant who beat Langley Alexendra of England 21-16 21-11 in the first round later crashed against Lin Shen in the second round losing 8-21 6=21.

Saina, the teen sensation from India, who is ranked in the top 15 in the world and seeded number 1 here had an bye into the second round.

Playing against Ozge Bayrak, Saina did not have to sweat much as she toyed with her rival beating her at the net and then unleashing those smashes of hers to win in a canter at 21-11 21-8.

Prakash Aditya gave more cheer for India as he beat Tang Kirt Soon of Singapore in straight sets at 21-11 21-15 to book a place in the second round. However, the other Indians on show on the opening day in boys singles Pratik Patel and H S Prannoy bowed out in straight sets against more fancied opponents.

India's Guru Sai Dutt, who is seeded fifth here, has been given a bye into the second round.

Second round: Saina Nehwal bt Ozge Bayrak 21-11 21-8; Prajakta Sawant lost to Lin Shen 8-21, 6-21 Boys singles: First round: Aditya Prakash bt Tang Kirt Soon 21-11 21-15; Pratik Patel lost to Chou Tien Chem 6-21 17-21; H S Prannoy lost to Kaun Kam Chung 15-21 16-21 Mixed doubles: First round: B Sai Praneeth and Pradnya Gadre bt Ingmar Seidelberg and Laura Estonia 21-13 21-14; Pranav Chopra and Prajakta Sawant lost to R Saputra and A Hudiono 16-21 17-21.
