Saina stuns Wang to advance into quarters at Olympics

Beijing, Aug 11 (UNI) Displaying her ever improving form, ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal upset world number six Chen Wang of Hong Kong to advance into the quarterfinals of the women's singles badminton event at the Olympics here today.

Though it was the toughest test for the Indian in her Olympic campaign so far, she still managed to edge past Wang 21-19, 11-21, 21-11 in the pre-quarterfinals at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium.

The 18-year-old Saina could very well sense the challenge she was up against as both the players fought for each and every point with great commitment as the two shuttlers were the Indian took her game up by a few notches to win the first game.

After a closely fought first game, Wang rallied to come back into the match and Saina's lapse of concentration allowed her opponent to level the scores with a 21-11 win in the second game.

However, not willing to give up easily, Saina fought back in the last game and her placements where she made Wang run from one corner to another helped her gain a 6-0 lead.

A high number of unforced errors, finally, brought Wang's downfall as Saina held her nerves and showed great skills to advance to the last eight.
