Singapore Open 2026: PV, Lakshya Sen, Sat-Chi Extend Their Winning Run Entering Quarterfinals

India's top badminton players reached the Singapore Open quarterfinals on Thursday in Singapore. PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and mixed doubles pair Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto all advanced. Key wins came against strong rivals from Japan, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.

PV Sindhu outplayed Japan's Riko Gunji in straight games. She finished the match in just 37 minutes. Sindhu kept control from the start in both games. The former world champion will next face top seed An Se-young in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Sen Advances After Vitidsarn Pulls Out Early

In men's singles, Lakshya Sen moved ahead after Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn retired. The Thai player quit with just two points played in the match. The short contest still sent Sen into the last eight. He will meet Japan's Koki Watanabe in his quarterfinal match.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan of Taiwan. The Indian pair took the opening game 21-15. The Chinese Taipei pair hit back 21-11 in the second. Satwik and Chirag then sealed the decider 21-18 in a tense finish.

The men's doubles win also lifted Satwik and Chirag's head-to-head record over their Taiwan counterparts. They now lead Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan 7-0. The Indian pair will next face Malaysia's Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai. They lost to this duo at the All England Open earlier this year.

Singapore Open 2026: Dhruv/Tanisha fight back in mixed doubles

Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto started slowly in mixed doubles. They lost the first game 8-21 to Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi. The Indian pair then raised their level. They won the next two games 21-17 and 21-16 to progress.

The Indian pair now face a tough quarterfinal. They will meet the third seeds Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei from Malaysia. The match will test the Indian pair's defence and attack. Their comeback win over the Japanese pair should boost confidence.
