India's hopes for a title at the Syed Modi India International badminton championships were dashed as the women's doubles duo, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, succumbed to a hard-fought defeat against Japan's Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi in the final.

The Japanese pair secured victory with a scoreline of 14-21, 21-17, 15-21. Despite receiving a virtual walkover in the semi-final, the Indian duo showcased resilience by winning the second game and forcing the match into a decider.

However, the seventh-seeded Indians faced challenges against their Japanese counterparts, trailing 8-11 at the change of ends and ultimately falling short.

The Syed Modi India International witnessed Japan's success as Iwanaga and Nakanishi clinched their nation's second title.

In the women's singles final, 2017 world champion Nazomi Okuhara secured a victory against Denmark's Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt with a score of 21-19, 21-16. Despite this success, Japan faced defeats in the other three finals of this BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.

In the men's singles category, unseeded Chi Yu Jen from Chinese Taipei emerged victorious by defeating second seed Kenta Nishimoto in a thrilling three-game battle, securing the crown with a scoreline of 20-22, 21-12, 21-17.

Chi, ranked 48th in the world, rallied after losing a closely contested first game, displaying resilience in the hour and 19-minute match.

Okuhara, a former world No. 1, demonstrated strategic play to overcome an early deficit in the first game of the women's singles final. Maintaining focus and executing her game plan, she secured her sixth BWF World Tour title in 51 minutes.

Tanisha and Ashwini exhibited an aggressive performance in the women's doubles final, with Tanisha's powerful smashes helping them gain an 11-8 lead in the first game. However, a brief interval allowed the Japanese pair to recover, leveling the score at 12-all and eventually pocketing the game in 18 minutes.

The Indian duo learned from their mistakes in the second game, securing a lead and winning it convincingly at 16-10. Yet, in the decider, they struggled to close the gap after trailing 8-11, and despite brave efforts, the world No. 15 Japanese pair claimed victory.
