Supreme Court Stays Age Fraud Probe Against Lakshya Sen, Grants Relief

By MyKhel Staff

New Delhi, February 25, 2025: Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen has received a major relief as the Supreme Court of India has stayed the Karnataka High Court's order allowing further investigation into an age fraud complaint against him and his brother, Chirag Sen.

The ruling was issued by a bench comprising Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, effectively putting a hold on any ongoing probe in the matter.

The Karnataka High Court, on February 19, 2025, had permitted authorities to proceed with investigations regarding alleged discrepancies in the age records of the Sen brothers, their parents, and their coach Vimal Kumar.

In response, Lakshya, along with his family and coach, approached the Supreme Court, challenging the decision. After hearing the plea, the Apex Court granted a stay, preventing any further inquiry until the case is conclusively decided.

Speaking on the development, Lakshya Sen's legal counsel stated, "The Hon'ble Supreme Court has granted relief by staying the High Court order and further investigation. This brings much-needed clarity to the matter and we remain committed to pursuing our legal remedies."

Senior Supreme Court lawyer Aryama Sunderam, representing Lakshya and others, argued that the Karnataka High Court had passed its order without hearing their side of the case. He was supported by senior lawyers Badri Vishal, Varun Joshi, and Ayush Negi, who also represented the Sen family in the proceedings.

With the Supreme Court's stay order in place, all further investigations in the case remain suspended. Meanwhile, Lakshya and Chirag Sen are shifting their focus back to their upcoming tournaments and international commitments. Further legal proceedings in the case will follow in due course.
