India's Kidambi Srikanth knocked out compatriot HS Prannoy to reach the second round of the ongoing Swiss Open 2025 badminton tournament, which is taking place at the St. Jakobshalle, Basel, Switzerland from Tuesday (March 18).
World No. 49 Srikanth, who won 23-21 23-21, was better at crucial points against world No. 28 Prannoy in the men's singles 48-minute contest of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament on Wednesday (March 19).

The former World Championship medallist from India, Srikanth will next take on fourth seed Li Shifeng of China in the round of 16 on Thursday (March 20), when he will be joined by a few more Indian shuttlers.
World No. 64 Shankar Subramanian beat Magnus Joahnnsen 21-5 21-16 in just 38 minutes to book a second round meeting with second seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark, while Priyanshu Rajawat, who can go up against Srikanth in the quarter-final, eased past Swiss wild card Tobias Künzi 21-10, 21-11.
Rajawat will meet France's Toma Junior Popov in the second round. However, it was end of the road for the likes of Kiran George and Ayush Shetty in the BWF Super 300 tournament after the duo bowed out in the first round of the men's singles event.
George dropped a game's lead to lose 21-18, 17-21, 10-21 against Denmark's Rasmus Gemke, while Ayush went down fighting against higher ranked Kenta Nishimoto of Japan, losing the opening round match by a score-line of 15-21, 19-21.
Also, finding the exit door early was two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu. The former world champion Indian shuttler suffered yet another first-round exit as world No. 31 Julie Dawall Jakobsen of Denmark beat the Indian 21-17 21-19 in 39 minutes.
Malvika Bansod also bowed out of the tournament following a hard-fought loss to Canada's Michelle Li. The rising Indian shuttler lost to the Canadian by a scoreline of 22-20, 14-21, 19-21 in an hour and 5 minutes.
While Sindhu and Malvika crashed out early, Anupama Upadhyaya and Isharani Baruah kept India's challenge alive in the women's singles competition at the expense of their compatriots Anmol Kharb and Aakarshi Kashyap respectively.
In an all-India clash of youngsters, Anupama defeated Anmol by straight games 21-14, 21-13, while Isharani fought from a game down to get the better of her senior compatriot Aakarshi by a scoreline of 18-21, 21-17, 22-20.
Anupama will next take on fourth seed Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia in the round of 16. Isharani, on the other hand, faces a fellow qualifier in Han Qianxi of China on Thursday (March 20).
Earlier on Tuesday (March 18), India's women's doubles pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly advanced into the second round after a straight games victory over Aline Muller of Switzerland and Kelly van Buiten of the Netherlands.
The world No. 9 Indian duo comfortably defeated the Swiss-Dutch pair 21-16, 21-17 in a 32-minute-long encounter to pave the way to the next round, where they will face Germany's Selin Hubsch and Amelie Lehmann.
However, Treesa and Gayatri, seeded fourth, will be the lone Indian challenge left in women's doubles in Basel after Priya Konjengbam-Shruti Mishra and Varshini Viswanath Sri-Arathi Sara Sunil lost their opening-round matches.
Priya Konjengbam-Shruti Mishra lost to Turkiye's world No. 61 pair Nazlican Inci and Bengisu Ercetin by a 21-11, 21-19 margin while Varshini Viswanath Sri-Arathi Sara Sunil went down to the Netherlands' Debora Jille and Danish shuttler Sara Thygesen 21-13, 21-13.
