Prannoy progressed to the quarter-final after straight games win against unseeded Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the second round on Thursday (June 22). The Indian shuttler eased past the Indonesian by a scoreline of 21-9, 21-17 in the round of 16 match that lasted for 36 minutes.

Earlier in the first round, the German Open champion defeated Prannoy's compatriot Meiraba Luwang Maisnam via straight games in a closely contested match that ended 21-18, 21-17 in favour of the shuttler from Hong Kong.
