Thailand Open 2026: Satwik-Chirag Fight Back to Reach Final After Thriller Against Malaysian Pair

Former champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the final of the Thailand Open 2026 after pulling off a gritty comeback win against Malaysia's Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin at the Nimibutr Stadium on Saturday.

The Indian duo battled back from a game down to register a 19-21, 22-20, 21-16 victory and book their first final appearance of the season.

The Malaysian pair started strongly in the opening game and broke away from 7-all to build a commanding 15-9 lead. Satwik and Chirag tried to recover late in the game, but Goh and Nur maintained control to close out the opener 21-19.

The second game turned into a tense back-and-forth contest, with both pairs refusing to give an inch. Satwik and Chirag earned two game points at 20-18, but the Malaysians fought back to level the scores. However, the Indians held their nerve in the closing moments to edge the game 22-20 and push the match into a decider.

Champions in 2019 and 2024, Satwik and Chirag completely shifted momentum in the third game. The Indian pair looked far more aggressive and in control, dominating the rallies before sealing the decider 21-16 to march into the title clash.

With the victory, the Indian duo also secured their maiden final appearance of the 2026 season after missing last year's edition of the tournament.

Satwik and Chirag will now face either Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin or China's He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu in the final.
